Bette J Shellhorn, Eastern Michigan University

Bette J. Shellhorn, Ph.D. is the first person to obtain a doctorate in her family.  Her father was a first generation immigrant whose family came to the United States for education.  He taught her to love books and said, “Books are your friends.” She completed all three degrees from Michigan State University and is currently teaching at Eastern Michigan University in the College of Education in the Teacher Education Department and the Reading Program Area.
